“Know Going Back” art tour; Laguna Clay

The “Know Going Back” art tour of 2021 is going great!!! Our journey so far has been filled with so much generosity and compation. Our friends at Alan’s Studio in Hawthorn, which greeted us with so much love and joy sent us off with vigor. Many thanks to you all!!

We arrived a bit late, but the folks at Laguna Clay where gracious to stay a bit late and welcome us to their factory. Marie, Barbara, Danny and Javier, showed us the many steps taken to process clay and glaze in the worlds largest producers.

They gave us a tour of the place, with great explanations on how clay and glazes are processed and made. This oldest of methods to express holds a long history of experimentation and problem solving. The company has not only kept that alive, but keeping the process and pleasure fluorescing. Receiving materials from all around the world, cataloguing a library of the worlds tera, they have made some amazing products!!!.

They gave us a more then generous donation of clay and Silky Underglaze for our trip to a little hidden artist residency in Phoenix. We are most greetful for your enthusiasm and support for our art making. You all are beautiful people!! And special thank you to Bryan for making all of this possible!

Launching “Know Going Back” from Oakland to L.A.

It was a beautiful day loading up the Bus and finishing up some details to let us hit the road. We had some weird issues with the safety features on the doors but after some troubleshooting, we were off to the races. It was about 2am when we left Oakland. We drove all night and all morning with a beautiful sunrise before us at the entrance to the Grapevine on I-5.

Thanks to our wonderful friend Chelsea Stephen, Tom and Rory flew up to Spokane Wa to be picked up in this awesome 2007 40’ International School Bus. We went to see Rory’s parents near Spokane then drove to Portland, Or. After a quick sleep Tom and Rory said farewell to Chelsea and her friend Haley, and they headed south to Oakland.
